Henry Estimate for Prosthetic

Henry 3 Paws is a young pup found as a stray on the streets of San Bernardino in September of 2016.  He ended up at the SBC Shelter where his photo was sent to me in a private message, asking if we could help him. Of course, he is just the type we like to help!

Henry is missing a foot.  On his right leg.   He gets on without this foot just fine, but having to compensate on his one good leg, is and will continue to cause more serious issues with his shoulders and spine.  We are already witnessing a change in his shorter leg, which is starting to twist outwards – because he is putting it down for support. Henry has a very similar to one of our other dogs Nubz, who is also missing most of the same leg.  They became instant Besties, but unfortunately Nubz was not a candidate for a prosthesis.

Henry was pulled from the SBC shelter on Sept 14, 2016 and placed into temporary foster care until his transport.  He arrived into Dhana Metta’s BC Headquarters on October 14, 2016. Yes we waited an unusually long time to post for donations to help him.  The reason for that is something which should simply never happen in rescue. Seeing the worst of the worst in human behavior and selfishness, come before the best interests of the animals being rescued.  Ego and drama is not needed when the real focus is about getting each and every animal we rescue, what they need asap.

I am truly disappointed that we had to wait this long to get Henry what he needs but now that this is behind us, we must move forward for Henry’s sake.

This is Henry’s shelter video.

Henry has already moved on, he has made new best friends – friends that are just like him!  Different but even more special!  We call Nubz and Henry “The Hoppity Twins”.   Henry just loves his friends, and is having a great time in Canada.

We decided to go ahead and get Henry’s specialist exam and xrays done upon arrival in October 2016.  We also decided to have casting made in February 2017, despite not having raised any funds specifically for Henry.   Orthopets will only hold the current casting for a total of 90 days, because his leg will continue to change the more he tries to use it.

We would hate to have to put him through getting another casting, and pay for another casting appointment.

That being said, we only have roughly 8 more weeks to raise the full amount of $2340 CAD or $1740 USD for Henry’s prosthetic leg and his house slipper, not including the physiotherapy that he will have to attend after he receives his bionic leg.

We hope that with this plea we put out today for Henry reaches many people and touches their hearts.   Henry is such a special little man – who holds no grudges against anyone and he wishes he will be up and running in his bionic leg by Spring!

We would love to see Henry run, hike, and play with his friends without possible injury.  Henry just LOVES to run and play with his buddies.  But sometimes, he screams out in pain, so we know that this missing foot does cause him discomfort.  Whether it be from the shoulder, or from the actual stump – we aren’t quite sure. But we would like to nip that in the bud right away.  He shouldn’t have to wait any longer to live pain free.

We would like to thank everyone in advance for SHARING Henry’s story and for DONATING ANY AMOUNT towards his bionic leg!

New Website

Just a heads up that Dhana Metta has a new website located at dhanamettarescuesociety.org! This blog will remain available for all of our veteran supporters, however, all updates will be done on our new site and via Petfinder.

We have a few new features that we hope will help make things easier for everyone, including online adoption and foster applications, and a centralized contact form. We have implemented a monthly donation program through PayPal, so supporters can now donate $10, $25, $50, or $100 (for the big spenders) each month without having to lift a finger!

We are also starting a newsletter, so please be sure to sign up by clicking here: Subscribe to our newsletter!

Thank you so much for your continued support!

Kayo and Cash – Adopted

Kayo and Cash are brothers, they were adopted as kittens from Dhana Metta five years ago, their family has since had a daughter – and unfortunately she is very allergic to the cats.  This is a very hard decision for the family as they love Kayo and Cash very much.  These brothers must stay together.

 Kayo & Cash

The boys are very healthy.  They have never been outside and we would like to keep them safe, indoors for the rest of their lives.  They are both neutered so they don’t plan on having any little buddies of their own. They are super cute, lots of fun, very gentle and loving. They are extremely friendly, and will become your best friend with some cuddles and treats.

Kayo is a bit of a chubby buddy, he’s a big boy.  He likes to get to the food dish before anyone. He loves to cuddle and be patted and have his big belly rubbed. Expect to have a bed partner with Kayo. He will lay near your head and purr. Also expect an occasional kiss goodnight or good morning.

Cash, is a smaller lil guy. He is very playful and rambunctious. He is definitely curious, but understands the word No, or Down. You will be laying on your couch watching TV and all of sudden you’ll have a TV watching partner.  Cash loves to play fetch with a ball or small toy mouse.

Both Kayo and Cash are very good with kids. They love each other’s company and we will not separate them; they are a package deal. They like their scratching post and have no problems sharing a litter box.

Kayo and Cash are accepting applications now.  Home visits are required.  Their adoption fee is by donation.  Please email us at adoptionsdmrs@yahoo.ca to request an application, and the boys will get back to you asap!

Shelby – Adoption Pending

Once I held Shelby in my arms, I realized that she had been abused by her previous owner – either kicked repeatedly and/or harmed otherwise around her head.  Her ribs were very sore and tender, although nothing was broken.  The first time she wagged her tail in anticipation of seeing us, was another ‘red letter day’…. these were all little milestones, but very important ones to witness and experience.

Shelby’s nature has always been one that is low keyed and unobtrusive, even once she blossomed and learned to trust us.  She’s preferred to spend her afternoons on the back of the recliner couch in our family room where she can see everything going on, and participate when she chooses to.   At 5 years old, Shelby is an average activity dog, not a barker and would do well with either a senior, or a working couple.

Shelby

She enjoys walks, and is house trained and crate trained.  She gets along well with other dogs and doesn’t seem to be bothered by big ones unless they show aggression towards her.   She also likes cats.  She would prefer an adult only home. Shelby has free roam here at the house – I’ve never had her make an accident in the house.  She prefers to sleep in the family room at night and is a very low maintenance kind of dog… sweet, and loving once she knows you, she is cordial and respectful immediately upon meeting humans and other dogs.

Appearance wise, she looks older than she is because of the white under her jaw, but adorable with the white toes on all four feet!

Her adoption fee is $295.  She has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and flea treated.  An adoption application and home visit is required.  You can email us at adoptionsdmrs@yahoo.ca to request one to be emailed to you.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Please be advised that Dhana Metta is in the process of making a very large move. Our mailing address on Kingsway is NO LONGER VALID. Our new address will be posted shortly.  Until then – no snail mail please.

We would also like to mention that our internet access will also be down temporarily during the move.  Please do not expect quick replies to your emails from June 15 – June 25th.  We will try our best to respond from various locations, but ask that you please be patient during our transition.

Thank you everyone!

Can you Chip In?

Hi Everyone.  Lately I have been feeling a little down and out.  Trying to find a new location for our Rescue/Adoption and Training Centre has proven to be extremely stressful and all too time consuming.  Especially while working full time and running this rescue full time too.

I was checking things out online today and saw that my friend Stacie had started a chip-in page.  I was very touched by Stacie’s dedication to our rescue.  She has fostered so many dogs for us and is just a wonderful soul.  I love you Stacie!

For some reason this blog isn’t letting me insert a direct link by clicking on it above, so you will have to copy and paste it for now.

I wanted to share the link to this page, cause it has a donation meter – which I am way too technically challenged to even figure out how to put on this blog…lol.  It would be nice to see the meter go up – as our dream to start an Adoption and Training Centre is around the corner, we just don’t have enough funds yet.  We are trying to raise enough by April 1st, I know that doesn’t leave much time, but if we all come together and chip in, this dream will become a reality sooner than we all think.

Anything and Everything helps, if you would like to know more about our Homeward Bound Cause, please send an email to dhanametta@yahoo.ca

Thank you everyone for your support.

Forever Homes

Please remember that to adopt a dog from Dhana Metta you must first complete an adoption application.  Once your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit with you.  Sometimes the home visits are done by volunteers, so even if your home visit is approved, you still may not be suitable for the specific dog you were interested in.  We try to be sure that we match the right dog to the right family, as a home is forever.

Boots – Adopted

Boots is a sweet girl, she is about a year old.  She also was very scared when she arrived.  She is not so good on leash right now cause the world is so scary.  Even when cars drive by she hits the pavement and flattens out.  Boots will need a very patient, loving family, who will not only teach her that the world is an ok place to be in, but who will also train her with gentle correction and positive reinforcement.

Boots the second

Boots gets along well with the other dogs, and does tell them to leave her alone when they get to pestering her.  She is fine with cats and would be good with older respectful children.

We have no idea what mix of breeds she is, so her new family will have to love her just the way she is.  She is very affectionate, and listens well, she also is very willing to please.  Her adoption fee will be $395 and she will be spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated.

Thank You

I wanted to extend a huge thank you to all the folks that helped us with this group of dogs.  It was a long hot drive and a ton of work.

Thanks to Jennifer for being my company and help along the way, and for grooming all the horribly matted dogs. Thank you to Mandarin for babysitting my gang while I was gone!  I hate leaving my kids alone (furkids that is), thanks to Jocelyn for coming over and helping bath and trim the larger dogs the next day!

Thanks to Tricia for helping with transporting doggies to and from the vet, and for taking care of my Shortman all weekend!!  Thanks to Nicole and Melissa for babysitting Jodie while I was away…A big thank you to all the foster people that actually kept their word and fostered for us!!  – you all rock!

Without any of you, I would be more exhausted than I already am.

I would like to also thank Dr. Higgins, Dr. Ochostsky, and Dr. Munjal for seeing Lego at such short notice, and putting up with my paranoid questions.  And to Laura M. at Canada West for being so awesome always!!

Thank you to Gloria and Anthony – your endless kindness and generosity brings tears of joy to my eyes every single time you make a donation to help the needy ones.

Knowing that you are all part of this great team, makes doing all of this so much more rewarding!

Namaste!

Yuana
