Archie – Adopted

Archie is 1.5 years old, a TerriPoo.  He is a high energy dog, that loves to wave at you with his 2 front paws while standing on his hind legs – too cute.  He still needs some training – recall being one of them.  He is good on leash, great with other dogs and cats.  He has not been tested with children.

He would love a home who could provide the exercise and training he needs…but one that would also love him as he is very affectionate.

Archie

As with all the shag dogs that came to us this time, he was brutally matted, we had a long day of grooming 7 dogs, and we though we should at least post one before and after photo…

Archie before grooming

He feels so much better now and is much happier being nice and cool and clean…He would love a new family that will keep him well groomed and brushed everyday. We want to remind people that getting a little fluffy puppy that is super cute – turns into a dog that requires regular grooming, and not providing this kind of care is cruel.

ArchieArchie’s adoption fee is $395, he is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, tattooed and flea treated.

You can email us dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application, home visits are required.

Rupert – ADOPTED

Rupert is a cute little Puggle, 3 years old.  He is super high energy and doesn’t stop moving for a second.  He loves to sniff everything.  He needs an owner that is firm but gentle with correction as he is hand shy, and has probably been hit in his past.

He isn’t too big, and has long legs, this was the only photo I could snap of the guy, he just moves around way too much LOL.

Rupert

He is fine with other dogs, and we just got work from his foster mom that he is great with kids too!

Rupert’s adoption fee is $395, he is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated, and tattooed.

You can email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application, home visits are required.

Possum – Adopted

Possum is a 10 month old Yorkie Poodle, sweet and playful.  Still very puppy like and learning her commands.  She is good with kids, dogs and cats.  She is high energy and loves to play and run.  She is also working on her leash manners as she gets a little nervous and tries to pull out of her collar.  She has improved greatly in a few days.

Possum

Possum’s adoption fee is $395, she is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated, and tattooed.

You can email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application. Home visits are required.

RuBY – ADOPTED

Ruby is a tiny little shihtzu cross weighing in at 7 lbs, and about 1.5 years old.  Super sweet, and loving.  Loves kids, great with other dogs, and cats too.  She is a little timid but warms up quickly.  She needs a gentle home who can provide her with tons of love. She really hates having her photo taken so these are the best we could get.

Ruka

She will be spayed, vaccinated, tattooed, dewormed and flea treated. Her adoption fee is $395.

Suka

An adoption application and home visit is required. Ruby is currently in foster care in Chilliwack and approved adopters will need to go there to visit with her.

Please remember that these breeds of dogs requires regular grooming and daily brushing, if you are not prepared to provide this, please do not think of adopting a shaggy dog.

Please email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application.

Elmo – ADOPTED

Elmo is a 3 year old Yorkie Terrier.  He is a little scared of strangers at first, and needs some time to get to know you before he will let you pick him up and hold him.  Once he knows you, he sure does like your lap!  He is a typical yorkie terrier, good with other dogs of all sizes, but gets a little grumpy when he doesn’t want to play or be sniffed.

Elmo

He is absolutely not good with children, and we will not consider homes with children for him.  He is housebroken, great on leash, and a super cutie pie.

He is neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed.  Elmo’s adoption fee is $395.  Elmo’s entire adoption fee will go into the Cookie Jar for Lego.

Please email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application, home visits are required.

JuneBug – Adopted

JuneBug is 6 months old. A terrier of some sort. She weighs in at 16.4lbs right now so she will get larger than what she is already. We have no idea what mix she is so cannot guarantee her size when full grown. She is a sweet girl, needing some training, sensitive, and high energy. She loves to play, great with other dogs. We have yet to test her with kids, but she seems so happy go lucky.

JuneBug

She needs a little work on her housebreaking still, but would learn quickly. JuneBug would love to have a human who will be able to provide her with the exercise she needs to burn off her energy and give her the cuddles and love that she craves.

Her adoption fee is $450. She has been spayed, tattooed, vaccinated, dewormed and flea treated. $55 of her adoption fee will go into the Cookie Jar for special needs animals.

Please email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application, home visits are required.

Riley – Adopted

Riley is a young Springer Spaniel.  He is still very puppy like and is now in a foster home to perfect the commands he already knows.  He is working on his leash manners, and his jumping up on people manners too.  He is a high energy dog, and loves to run and play.  He is great with other dogs, little and big. We have not tested him with cats.

RIley

He also needs an owner that will keep up and be consistent (as with all dogs big or small) with the common rules. We would prefer that he went to a home without small children as he does jump up and he is not exactly small. His new human will need to be quick with corrections for this issue.

Riley’s adoption fee is $450. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea treated. $55 will be going into the Cookie Jar for animals that need special vetting.

Please email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca for an adoption application, home visits are mandatory.

Joni (aka Jodie) – ADOPTED!

Joni and her sister Jolene came into the rescue about 3 months ago.  Jolene found a home very quickly.  Joni broke her leg, and needed to have surgery to repair it.  So she stayed with us until she was all healed up and ready to run again.

Joni and Jolene are so similar in looks and personality.  They are Chihuahua x Schipperke.  Joni is about 10 months old now, and full of energy after being confined during her healing time.  She is now housebroken, and listens very well.  Her fear of humans has lessened so much it is like she is a totally different dog then when she first came in.

DSC07137

She is a super fast runner, and she loves to play with the other dogs.  She is fine with cats too.  She would prefer a home without young children as she is still somewhat fearful of quick movements.  She needs a ton of chew toys cause that is one of her favorite things to do.  She herds her human as the Schipperke does and loves to cuddle like a chihuahua.

DSC07034

Joni has been spayed, dewormed, revolutioned and fully vaccinated.  Her leg has completely healed and the pins have been removed.  Joni’s adoption fee is $495.  If you have questions or would like to receive an application to adopt her, please email us at dhanametta@yahoo.ca

Carlsberg – Adoption Pending

UPDATE ON CARLSBERG SEPT 28/09

Carlsberg is doing very well, he made it through the healing very well.  He got his pins removed just the other day.  His foster mom has of course fallen in love with the little dude, and is seriously thinking of becoming his forever mom.

To date we have raised $700 for Carlsberg’s surgery and still owe about $2800.  Even though he may be soon to be adopted, he is still worth raising the money for…please don’t forget about Carlsberg.

To donate you can call Canada West veterinary specialists directly, or cheques can be sent to our society.

Thank you to all those who have helped so far!  Carlsberg thanks you!

Carlsberg is a 15 week old Pug Chihuahua cross.  He had an unfortunate accident.  I know we all think that puppies are not as fragile as they really are, simply jumping off the bed and landing incorrectly can be dangerous.  And that is exactly what Carlsberg did.

Carlsberg

CARLSBERG LOOKS BUMMED AFTER SURGERY – POOR GUY

He has fractured both of his front elbows very badly.  It took 2 separate surgeries.   Poor guy had to just sit on his butt (literally) while waiting.  It is very unfortunate and very sad that his owners could not afford this surgery and did not have pet insurance in place….they have chosen to surrender the little guy.

We unfortunately do not have the money either to pay for his surgery of $4500 (give or take).  And we certainly didn’t want to see this little guy PTS so young,  but again we need to raise the funds to pay his bill.  This was a surgery that simply could not wait like some of the luckier ones.  We usually have time to raise funds prior to going ahead….Carlsberg was simply in too much pain and stalling was not an option.

Carlsberg 1

CARLSBERG AFTER SURGERY

If you are able to donate even $20 towards Carlsberg’s fund – we graciously accept.  If we could get 225 people to donate $20 each, we will have reached the goal.  Can you help?   Donations can be make directly to Canada West Veterinary Clinic by calling 604 473 4882.  Or cheques can be mailed to 235 – 2607 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC V5R 5H4.  Be sure to make the cheque out to Canada West.

Carlsberg IS NOT currently up for adoption.  He has a few months of healing, rechecks, pin removals ahead of him.  We are not accepting applications for Carlsberg at this time.  Please continue to check this website for updates.

Any inquiries regarding Carlsberg should be made directly with the Dhana Metta Rescue Society via email, please do not contact Canada West for this information.

Please Donate to Odin and Hubert Kittens

Update Sept 5/09

DSC01831

Odin and Hubert have done so well without their little legs, in fact better without them than with the stumps they had.

Now their 2 brothers Frodo and Oshii are still waiting to be adopted, they are special too, even though they are not special needs.

Frodo and Oshii are now 16 weeks old and getting big.  Soon they become the kittens that nobody wants to adopt because they have “grown out of cute”…bah humbug to that – they are still cute and will always be cute cause their personalities totally rock!

There is a photo of Frodo below, when he was 8 weeks old, I haven’t had a chance to take any new ones.  If you would like to meet please let us know.

UPDATE JULY 10/09

Today I decided to take the 2 kittens with missing feet into Canada West to have them checked out.  It just didn’t seem right that they were using their stumps and the stumps did not look healthy to me.  So I had a surgeon take a look, and little ODIN, the black kittens with 3 feet and a stump had to get surgery done right away.  His stump had become necrotic, and his leg needed to be amputated correctly.  Hubert, Odin’s brother also had his leg amputated, and they have found their forever homes – together!!

OdinPoor Little Odin, I feel so bad for him

We wanted to give these 2 babies a better life, and a happier life, some people would say it was crazy to do this, and maybe we should have just let them go, but we can’t and couldn’t.

The surgeries for these 2 babies will cost the rescue approximately $1200.  We are again hoping that the animal loving community will donate to this cause as they have with so many others.  Donations can be made directly to Canada West Veterinary Specialists by calling 604 473 4882.

Again we ask that questions about adoptions etc be directed to our Society via email, and not to the nice ladies in reception at Canada West – they already have so much to do everyday!

OdinOdin after Surgery – Adopted

The litter of kittens were born as 6.  They were very entangled with mom’s umbilical cords and had to make an emergency trip to the vet the minute they were born.  2 of the little kittens lost a foot.  Doesn’t slow them down though.  One of these kitties had the umbilical cord around his neck restriciting airflow, Otis is a little slower that the rest of the kitties, but is such a doll regardless.

DSC07294OTIS – Adopted

There are 4 black kitties with a touch of white on their chests, and 2 tuxedos.  One black and one tuxedo are tri-pods.

DSC07310Hubert has been adopted together with ODIN

Again, if you are interested in adopting a new friend, please email us for an adoption application.

DSC07291FRODO

Ok, so I think my kitten sexing skills are starting to fade, either all 6 of these kittens are male, or I really suck at sexing kittens.  We shall know on Saturday when they go to the vet for their exams.  And yes the entire litter was boys, so I don’t suck after all at the sexing of kittens LOL

To date August 15, 2009 we have only raised $100 towards the surgeries of Hubert and Odin…Their adoption fees have given $25.00 into the pot, so that is another $100 towards the surgery.  We have put a few of the adoption fees from other heathly animals into the pot for the kitties, and still owe around $350.  Any amount will help pay for these beautiful souls that are just as deserving as anyone else…please help.
