Godzilla – Rest In Peace

UPDATE MAY 27, 2010

Today is a very sad day. After being so happy that Godzilla finally found his forever family, and having planned his trip to them this Sunday, the Universe decided to throw us a curveball.

Last night Godzilla had a massive seizure, it felt like it went on for so long. His tongue went blue, and I was in a panic….I soothed him by talking to him and petting him gently. Once it stopped, he was in a shocked state. I lay with him…but he could only move his eyes. I waited a few more hours, and he was able to lift his head.

I prayed that if I gave him a little more time, he would be able to get up and walk. Unfortunately, this morning, he was still laying in his cozy bed, only moving his head.

I had to make the decision to take our sweet Godzilla in to the vet and let him go to doggie heaven.

I am glad that Godzilla’s foster mom Jackie and his new family did not have to go through this experience. I know that they are also just as heartbroken as I am.

All the resident doggies sat with Godzilla, all the way til this morning. They knew something had happened, and gave him the comfort of being surrounded by love.

Sweet Godzilla had been with us since last November or so, and he did have a very loved last few months of his life. Rest in Peace Zilla, til we meet again.

Godzilla is an 11 year old Shihtzu who  is very affectionate and sweet.  He loves to hang out with you and go for walks.  He is very obedient and listens very well to commands.  He walks great on a leash and is house broken.

He reminds me so much of my little Lego Man, (who has been adopted) cause like Lego, Godzilla has suffered from a head injury/trauma, so he too has a funny gait.  Walking like he is gonna fall over, but never really falling over….ah brings back memories of sweet Lego. (Hey Lindsay, we need a new video update of Legman!)

He gets on like any other dog and deserves to be in a place where he can be happy.  He has been examined by the neurologist at Canada West and he is not in any pain….is happy…and will be fine continuing on as he is.

He has been in the same home for 9.5 of his 11 years,  since he was a year and a half, and unfortunately his mom is not feeling well.  She has decided that she cannot provide Godzilla what he needs.  She doesn’t want him to suffer because she is unwell.

He gets along well with other dogs and even his rabbit friend Twinkle, he even likes cats.
An adoption application and home visit is required.  Godzilla’s adoption fee is by donation.  You can request an adoption application at adoptionsdmrs@yahoo.ca

Our newest dog, Ruby is from Dhana Metta and she is a sweet little Shihtzu who looks like a much younger version of Godzilla. We adopted her in August. She became a companion for Kip, our 11 year old Shihtzu whom we adopted in April of last year. His lifetime owner moved and could not take Kip with her. We reluctantly took him in, first to foster, and within days we decided he belonged with us forever! He is a loyal and loving old man who loves us and little Ruby and we can’t imagine life without him! An older dog can bring you so much love and joy and deserves happiness to live out the rest of their lives! Please don’t say no to Godzilla because he’s an older guy! He may become the best canine companion of your life! (And he’s potty trained!)

First time I saw ‘Zilla on your site I thought of him as a companion for Echo, who I adopted from you a few months back. While she has finally (thank goodness) made peace with the cats she practically wags herself to death when she meets up with other doggies here on her walks and strains at the leash to go with them when they walk on home. ‘Zilla ( I refuse to call such a beautiful dog godzilla!) is a year older than Echo so would probably be happy with the shorter walks that Echo takes and he might keep Echo from noticing that I am absent when I go shopping etc..(Echo does NOT like to be separated from me.)It was a thought…what do you think?

Barbara, I think you and Echo would make a perfect family for Zilla.

He is sweet, laid back, listens very well, and loves people too. He is fine with cats, pays no attention to them at all, and is fine with the other dogs too.

I think if you want to meet him, we could definately arrange that.

Let me know how you would like to proceed.

I LOVE Godzilla! What a neat little guy who will surely find a wonderful home soon. My sister’s dog recently suffered from a stroke at 12 years old and now he walks like the tower of pisa! It just cracks us up but he never falls – well, not as often as you would think. Zilla is adorable and I’ll be watching to make sure he gets adopted!!

what a sweet, sweet face he has… he looks as though he is a very peaceful soul…although… as with most dogs… I’m sure if a squirrel popped up on the horizon…… lol
Someone please give him a pat on the head for me, thank you!

I am so terribly sorry to hear of little Godzilla’s passing! We were so endeared by his story and would have loved to have him in our home had we not already had two dogs and a cat. Rest in Peace little guy!

I have come to your sight through my friend.. as I was looking for a dog for my cat, Husky… it was time to expand the family when Husky passed suddenly two months ago. I really like your organisation and Zilla was an amasing looking lil buddy. That all the other four leggeds ringed him like this as he prepared to go home, is something very special. I hope the new foster parents can attach to another one of your beloved friends. I am not yet ready for another animal, but when I am.. I will turn to you. Bless you for your work and may you be be abundant in love and rewards for all your incredible service.. ❤

I am so sorry that Godzilla never had the chance to come play on the island. I really did think he’d make a senior a nice slow beach walk companion.
Rest in peace you furry little sweetheart.

I just read the story of Godzilla’s passing and found it heartwarming the way the other dogs stayed with him. I think Godzilla must have felt the love and concern of his canine and human friends. RIP

I just came to this website to check up on whether Godzilla had been adopted out or not. I had him for so many years. I can’t stop crying after seeing that post. I am shocked. I wish I could have been there for him, at least visit him during his last moments, but I am in QC right now and people here keep asking me where my dog is because he was usually right behind me walking with me wherever I went.
Thank you for taking Godzilla in and giving him such great care, and allowing him to have a chance at a better life, one that I would not have been able to give him during this time in my life.
I thank the foster family who took him in and loved him, and all of his doggy friends who stood by him during his final journey. I also thank Yuana for taking care of him and being with him while he took his last breath.
Godzilla had been with me through so much.

I miss you Godzilla and I always will.

    Love: Mommy

    Dear Godzilla’s Mommy,

We only knew Godzilla through this blog, and we felt he was deeply loved by everyone, especially you, Yuana, the foster family, the family waiting to welcome him, and all of his doggy friends.
It is difficult to accept that the loved one has disappeared, but we will be all reunited one day. Just that our fate is different. So remember all the precious moments and keep him close in your heart, until all of life meets again.

    Lots of hugs to you.

    Sincerely,
    Bu’s family

    Dear Yuana,

Godzilla was surrounded by the warmest bunch possible during his journey in this life.

Godzilla brings back memories of our dear Pooh.
Maybe they met up by the Rainbow Bridge?
You were the first person we turned to when Pooh departed.
Thank you for always being there, even during the difficult times.

    With much love,
    B&M&S…&P from the sky
