Lego – Adopted

UPDATE ON LEGO SEPT 14, 2009

Lego has come so far in 7 weeks.  He is awesome!  He plays, runs, tries to jump but that is still something he can’t do.  The ramp for my big old Bubba came in handy, Lego learned all on his own that this ramp was the way in and out of the house.  He uses it all the time and is really good at it!  Thank you to all those who donated to Lego.  He is doing so well now.  We are planning to use the rest of the donations to have his teeth cleaned and have him neutered.  He will be going into his trial forever home this Friday!

UPDATE ON LEGO:

This is Lego just 48 hours after being left in a box.  I put out a plea to ask the people who left Lego behind to contact us, as we needed more info to be able to help him. They responded. They had a party, they got super wasted, one of the guys at the party thought it would be funny to smash Lego against the wall to see what would happen. He died. One of the girls at the party resuscitated him. And the very next day, dropped him off in a box. WTF???

I am proud of little Lego that he has improved so much in a week.  He is happy, less scared, and walking way better as you can see in the video below.  I cry for his suffering, and the image of him being slammed into a wall repeats itself in my head over and over again…make it stop.  I am hoping that he learns not to poop in his crate at night, as he must hate having a bath every morning.  I pray that the swelling goes down and he will function as normally as possible in his future.

We go back to Canada West tomorrow, to see what the next step will be.  Now that we know the truth, will it help his recovery?

We don’t know Lego’s history, he has only been with us since Saturday 25th July 2009.  All we know is that he is around 3 years old, the sweetest little chihuahua you could meet, he follows me around everywhere, even though he is wobbly.  He is very friendly and he likes other dogs too.

I don’t want to leave Lego behind because we haven’t the funds for him.  It has been difficult raising funds for other dogs that have needed our help, and a little discouraging.  When the thought of having to leave Lego out, tears filled my eyes, I can’t do it.  I am after all a avid chihuahua lover as most folks that know me – know me.

To try and get as much as possible for him – We have decided to put a couple of the adoption donations into the Cookie Jar for Lego.  The only way we can raise enough funds for the dogs that really need us, is to do it with adoption fees.  Even asking for $20 from 400 people didn’t pan out.  Our rescue has always run this way – we hardly ever get donations, the adoption fees from healthy highly adoptable pets – help the other special needs, not so adoptable pets.

Donations for Lego’s Care Fund can be made by sending a cheque to our mailing address or to Canada West.  Please make all cheques payable to Canada west Veterinary Specialists.  Or you can call in a donation in at Canada West 604 473 4882.

Lego will be posted on Petfinder, where you can directly sponsor him through his posting.  And if you want to make a deposit into the rescue Vancity account, please email us for that information.

As our usual adoption protocol, LEGO will not be up for adoption until we figure out his issue and get it dealt with.  Again we ask kindly that all inquiries about Lego be sent directly to the Dhana Metta Rescue Society via email dhanametta@yahoo.ca – please DO NOT call Canada West with your inquiries.

Hello! Thank you for your _meteoric_ efforts with Lego to nurse him back to health!

We are a small young family of 3 in Surrey on a fixed (disability) income and have been searching for a suitable small to medium sized dog to accompany our son on his adventures in the back yard and in the nearby park. We are also seeking the sort of companionship which a mouse and several goldfish simply cannot provide, though we love them very much.

We don’t know if there are any substantial up-front fees involved in assuming the care of a dog such as Lego, but we are certain we would be able to provide him a loving, stable and safe environment. We have access to good quality organic meat which we are able to obtain at a fantastic price, so providing for his basic needs should not take a huge chunk out of our budget.

Certainly, we would not be offended if you were able to find what you felt to be an even more suitable placement, but we would be interested in speaking to you about the possibilities.

    SIncerely,

    Michael & Heather

Hey Yuana, you are doing such great work and lego’s story breaks my heart. I am so glad there is someone like you doing this work, as it inspires us all. I think it would be so great if we could somehow organise Visa Payment donations as part of the website. I think the convienience would be easy for people to use and to donate more, and right away after reading the stories posted. Anyone out there know how to set up a visa payment access from the site???

Well I certainly don’t LOL….I am not that technically gifted.

That’s the downside, I am good at all the animal stuff, not so good at other stuff.

But I did open a paypal account, now if I could only incorporate it into this blog…..hmmmmm

You can set one up a donations button on your blog through PayPal. Just go into your account, to Merchant Services than to Website Payments Standards and click on the create a donate button. It will walk you through the rest to create one. With it people can donate using their credit card even if they don’t have a PayPal account.

I tried to donate on petfinder where I first saw lego – it isn’t working so I thought I would try here – but I can’t see anywhere to click to donate……
Lego breaks my heart and I’d love to help out in at least a little way… (I have two little chihuahuas sleeping beside me)
Please let us know what we can do…..

Is there an update on Lego? When I met him he certainly proved to be a very sweet little dog who was quite endearing. I’d really like to know how he is progressing! He was one little guy that sure brought out the “mommy” in me!

    Hi All

I have yet to post some more videos on Lego and his progress. He is doing great. He had a few bad spells there for a while, lots of irregularity with his bowels, and some serious stress and anxiety. I took him in to Vancouver Animal Wellness Clinic to see if homeopathic remedies could work for the little dude, and he did very well on those.

He now barks at passersby, he is so funny, he runs so fast even though he looks funny – he is amazingly quick on his feet.

I am going to take some videos on him soon, I want to catch him in action. He is so smart and understands everything I say…what a trooper!

Keep your eyes peeled for those videos – should be within the week or so!

I first saw Lego through a post on a friend’s facebook and it touched my heart. I couldn’t get him out of my mind. That a tiny little guy like that could get so hurt and continue to be so happy and trusting.

I now have a little Chi mix and am ever amazed at these little dogs and their big personalities. I’m so glad to know that little Lego has a home, and am so grateful that there are people out there doing the work that you do to make sure all these wonderful animals get a chance to do what they do best…..LOVE❤.
